Sleigh rides offer a presidential experience
The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, home of the nation’s FIRST presidential library, celebrates President's Day by offering visitors a chance to travel in presidential style.
Nineteenth U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes lived at a time when horse-drawn vehicles were the main mode of transportation. During President's Day weekend, visitors can tour the grounds of Hayes’ Spiegel Grove estate via horse-drawn sleighs provided by South Creek Clydesdales. Rides are offered 1-4 p.m. Feb. 12-15. Cost is $3 per rider.
In addition to the sleigh/carriage rides, both the Hayes Home and Hayes Museum are open for tours from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 12 & 13, and noon-5 p.m. Feb. 14 & 15. (Although the Center usually is closed on Mondays, in honor of President’s Day the Museum and Hayes Home WILL BE open Feb. 15.) Currently, the Hayes Museum features the exclusive exhibit Croquet: A Sport Story. The Hayes Presidential Center is home of the most comprehensive collection of printed croquet materials in the nation. Croquet: A Sport Story showcases that collection and chronicles the 19th-century history of one of the few early sports where co-ed play was acceptable. Admission to the exhibit is included in the Museum ticket price of $7.50/adult, $6.50/seniors, $3/children 6-12. The same prices apply to admission to the Hayes Home, although substantial savings are available by purchasing a Combination Ticket good for entry to both buildings.
